Balcony fire incident resolved safely

8 July 2023

This morning, a fire occured on a balcony at 14 York Street. ICE Condominiums’ fire safety plan was followed and Toronto Fire Services extinguished the fire promptly. No-one was injured and Toronto Fire Services have identified no ongoing safety risk.

Immediately after the incident, ICE Condominiums arranged for cleanup and restoration services. Investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. In instances like these, costs to repair damage caused by negligence are charged to the owner of the unit from which the offence occurred. We remind residents to not store combustible items on their balconies.

Household fire safety is critical. Our resident handbook provides additional guidance, and we encourage the public to review the Government of Canada’s publication: Fire safety in your home - Canada.ca
