ICE Condominiums holds residents' safety as its highest priority. Although entrapment is an uncommon and unpleasant occurrence, they represent a failsafe aspect of an elevator's overall mechanical safety design. Building policy is to call 911 if an entrapment lasts longer than 45 minutes or immediately if medical attention is required. With respect to the incident on August 12, elevator passengers who were Airbnb guests, maintained contact with both building security and the condominium’s GuardTek emergency response line. Following policy, building security called 911 to request emergency assistance, and paramedics and the Toronto Fire Services were on-site when the elevator opened. The passengers ultimately declined medical assistance. Contrary to allegations, the entire issue was resolved in 60 minutes.
